3 Benefits of Pumpkin for your Pooch

Pumpkin Benefits:
  1. Digestive Health: Pumpkin is high in fiber and water.  This allows it to double duty for your pet if they are constipated or having a bout of diarrhea. Exhibit A: Fergie once decided to see what was on the menu in the cat's litter box. This resulted in some impressive diarrhea.  We added 2 tablespoons of pumpkin to her food for the next several days to help 'tighten' her up.  It worked.
  2. Weight Loss: If your pet could stand to lose a few pounds, add a few tablespoons of pumpkin to their food.  Pumpkin is low calorie and very filling with the high fiber content. You pet feels full but is taking in fewer calories to get them to their correct weight.
  3. Antioxidants/Vitamins: Pumpkin contains several antioxidants and vitamins good for your pets health:
    • Vitamin A for vision health
    • Vitamin C to boost immune system
    • Zinc for skin and coat
    • Beta-Carotene for anti-aging benefits
Pumpkin Heads Up:
  1. Don't feed your pet the stem or leaves of a pumpkin.  These have small spiky hairs that can cause irritation.
  2. Don't feed your pet raw pumpkin or the sugary pumpkin pie filling.

We use over half a cup of organic cooked pumpkin in each batch of our Peanut Butter and Pumpkin munchies!

Treat your pet!
